Design studio focusing primarily on the research + development of textiles and natural materials which are then applied across various fields of art and design through objects and installations.
Soft Amphorae
Started in 2016 this project includes more than 100 hand knitted vessels. Constructed with thin linen fibers - often hand dyed with plants found through hikes and travels - on top of assembled structures of discarded glassware.
The process:
These vessels emphasise my desire to create unique objects through handmade processes and craftsmanship.
It reflects a way of living and creating specific to my Brazilian heritage, which relies on collecting direct resources — this can be natural or post consumerist wastes — and let that material influence the objects you create. The process implies that you set your body in movement through your environment and that you are observing your surroundings, once you have noticed an abundance of a certain material you start collecting it and mapping your local area with good routes to take or test. What I produce from one month to another is then heavily influenced by what I can be found and collected in my locality.
The object:
Each Soft Amphorae has two different coloured sides and most can be turned upside down.
They can hold water on either end.
The malleable handles reflect on the fluid quality of textiles and allows new ideas to be shaped and reshaped. This versatility in form and colour allows the object to enhance or adapt to the dynamic of any space.
